EDO-KOMON SERIES : 'SHIPPO-TSUNAGI'
Edo-komon are traditional Japanese designs from the Edo period (1603-1867). Edo-komon motifs consisting of auspicious symbols and patterns are the inspiration for many of my designs.
Shippo means enamel in Japanese so this motif has a deep connection to my work. This design meaning 'Seven Treasures' has been used for courtiers since the Heian Era (794 – 1185). This design uses repeating interlocking circles representing eternity and is regarded as a lucky motif.
