EDO-KOMON SERIES: 'SHIPPO-TSUNAGI'

Edo-komon are traditional Japanese designs from the Edo period (1603-1867). Edo-komon motifs consisting of auspicious symbols and patterns are the inspiration for many of my designs.

'Shippo' means enamel in Japanese so this motif has a deep connection to my work. This design meaning Seven Treasures has been used for courtiers since the Heian Era (794 – 1185). The design uses repeating interlocking circles which represent eternity and is regarded as a lucky motif.
