Hello, everyone! I hope you’ve been well? We’re having our first Christmas holidays since we moved to Scotland this spring. I’d like to review our new life with seasonal photos.

こんにちは。皆様お元気ですか？大変ご無沙汰しております。春にスコットランドへ引越してから、初めてのクリスマスを迎えています。今日より4度に亘って、季節毎のフォトジャーナルで新しい田舎生活を振り返ります。

COUNTRY WALK PHOTO JOURNAL

- M A Y -

The little village we live is called Lochwinnoch, a 30-mins train ride from Glasgow. The village was covered with wild garlic in May.

グラスゴーから電車で30分程の小さな田舎のLochwinnoch。五月は村中が行者ニンニクに覆われます。

A Parish Church in Lochwinnoch. The bell rings every hour. A little path attached to the church is carpeted with bluebells in this season.

毎時間、鐘の音を響かせてくれる村の教会。19世紀初頭の建物脇には小さな並木道。この季節はブルーベルのカーペット。

A little path I named Rabbit Hole. It leads you to the old railway, Scottish Heritage Trail, connecting Kilbirnie and Paisley & Port Glasgow.
駅に向かう車道の脇から旧鉄道を利用したサイクリングコースへとつながる人影ないひっそりとした道。兎の穴と名付けました。

The castle is a ruined tower house constructed in the 15th or early 16th century. Barr means height or hill in Scottish Gaelic.

兎の穴を進んでサイクリングコースに出ると、程なく現れるバー城。バー [Barr]とはスコットランドで話されるケルト系言語ゲール語で、高台や丘を意味するそう。15世紀から16世紀初期に建てられたとの事。

Castle Hill & Douglas Park, Largs. Largs is a coastal resort town, 30-mins drive from home. We would often visit Largs for delicious ice cream this summer. Castle Hill & Douglas Park has been one of our favourite trails nearby. You can see beautiful Arran in the distance. The island is often described as a Scotland in miniature.

村からドライブで30分、よく出かける海沿い街ラーグスのキャッスルヒル・ダグラスパーク。この夏スコットランドは観測史上最も暑い記録を更新したようで、アイスクリーム目当てで良く出かけました。遠方に見えるのは、”ミニチュアのスコットランド”の異名を持つアラン島。スコットランドの特徴的景観を全て兼ね備えると形容されます。

村に残るオウルドサイモンカーク時計塔。上記Youtubeで時計塔の仕組みを説明しています。

The village has neither a bank nor a post office but a lovely coffee shop selling fancy chocolates. There are some areas famous for its local sea salt in the country. Isle of Skye is one of them and it’s definitely a must-visit destination in Scotland.

銀行も郵便局もない小さな村にハンドメードのチョコレートも売っているコーヒー専門店があるのは嬉しい限り。スコットランドには塩が名産の地方もいくつかあって、バターはもっぱら地元のシーソルト入り。

The light is amazing in Scotland. It creates a magical feel.

スコットランドの日の射し方は独特。マジカルな世界が漂います。

一ヶ月近く続いた仮住まいから新居へ移った日の夕べ。壁に映し出された光と影がまるでインスタレーションアートの様で感激でした。

The Temple is on the hill in the distance. The octagonal Kenmure Hill Temple, a mysterious 18th century building.
遠方の丘に立つ、通称”お寺”と呼ばれる八角形のケンミュール・ヒル・テンプルは謎多き18世紀の建物。

Each morning the loch shows a different face. We had brilliant spring and summer this year.
毎日全く違う表情を見せてくれる湖。春から夏にかけては素晴らしい気候が続きました。

バー城と旧鉄道サイクリングコースを挟んだ向かいの景色。

家から湖とは反対方向へ5分程歩くと見えてくる滝。その先の朽ち果てた毛織工場跡と古い石壁に沿って咲き乱れる紫陽花。

The peonies are bought flowers. The plants in our garden didn’t even bear any buds this year. Instead, it was a year of roses. Such abundance of them in the garden with fantastic scent. The roses had been flowering repeatedly until November.

今年、芍薬はつぼみさえ出来ませんでした。代わりに薔薇の当たり年。バーボンローズ、Louise Odier がスコットランドの庭をとても気に入ってくれた模様。本当に良い香りで11月頃まで周期的に咲き続けてくれました。
